Veebeam and Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)

Since the release of Mac OS X 10.7, the Veebeam software is no longer 100% functional.

Apple appears to be closing down necessary functionality as they promote their own eco-system, locking out 3rd party products such as ours in the process.

Whilst Video Player mode continues to function correctly, the Desktop mode (replicating your desktop on the TV) is no longer operational.

Status

We have been unsuccessful in our efforts to deliver a solution the latest version of Mac OS X 10.7. Initial tests on the beta release of Mountain Lion, Mac OS X 10.8, show similar behaviour.

The fix we were developing has not delivered a performance suitable for release to the public, based on the high standards for High Definition video we expect for our customers.

Based on this recent effort, and seeing that Apple may change functionality again, we are in a position where we cannot support Mac OS X 10.7.

We will continue to support customers with Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6

We are sorry that we do not a solution for you and share your frustration in this area.

What works and what does not on Lion

  • Video Player mode continues to function correctly
  • Screencast / Desktop mode (replicating your desktop on the TV) is no longer operational
  • Audiocast mode continues to function correctly

What we recommend

If Veebeam Desktop mode is important to you, then we suggest you do not upgrade to Lion.

If you do need Lion, but also wish to be able to use Desktop mode, we suggest installing Lion on your Mac as a separate partition. You can then use 10.6 when you need to do Desktop mode, or else boot into Lion when you need to use that.

Alternatively, if you have already upgraded to Lion, you can make a new partition and re-install Mac OS X 10.6 so that you can then run Veebeam.

To do this please download the following guide:
